Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a specialist respiratory nursing service. This is a well-established clinical nurse specialist team, fully able to offer support and mentorship.
Services are currently offered to children with respiratory conditions who attend Birmingham Children's Hospital but could be from anywhere in the West Midlands.
You will need to be a RSCN/RN child branch with post registration experience including some experience of managing teams and /or caseloads. You will need to show some evidence of working with children with respiratory conditions, demonstrate excellent communication skills and leadership skills.
The post holder will work closely with the Respiratory Consultants and allied health professionals, in the implementation of specialist nursing skills, developing services and using effective approaches to meet the needs of this complex group of patients.
Support guidance and clinical nursing expertise will be available to all children and young people with respiratory conditions their families, carers and other professionals. This will be established across the West Midlands region, through provision of good clinical practice, education, research and leadership to achieve the best quality of life and outcomes for this group of children.
Main duties of the job

To attend professional meetings on a regular basis.
To promote an evidenced based practice culture ensuring good practice is shared across the clinical service group, directorate, Trust and externally where appropriate.
To support specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise in the care and management of children and young people with respiratory conditions and those using NIV and oxygen.
To be competent in the assessment and evaluation of patients with respiratory conditions.
To implement and evaluate care for patients with respiratory conditions (within the hospital and community settings) including those using NIV and oxygen and with asthma in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.
To coordinate the provision of home support to children with NIV and oxygen.
To lead in the completion of all relevant training competencies and be central in the training of parents/ carers and young people with NIV and oxygen.
To work collaboratively with MDT members of the team, and then ward nurses in the wider Trust, to promote a "working together" culture.
Offer teaching and support to other staff members throughout the trust to ensure the patient is managed safely and effectively.
