Since 2019 our service has been led by Professor Jackson Kirkman-Brown during a time of evolution and reinvigoration of our services and provision. As Professor Kirkman-Brown moves to concentrate on his research and academic aims alongside our service, this role has become available. The role is based within our Fertility Centre and is senior within the Laboratories team. It is a fantastic opportunity for someone wishing to pursue their career in reproductive sciences within the NHS to take a leadership role in our busy multidisciplinary clinical environment, equally we are happy to receive applications from established scientists wishing to move to our team.
The Fertility Centre has been providing exceptional care to couples and individuals experiencing fertility problems for over 40 years and is regionally, nationally and internationally recognised for its infertility care and research. We are an expert team employing a holistic approach to treatment. We are the only specialist fertility centre in the Midlands licensed to provide a full range of services from diagnosis of infertility to specialist fertility surgery, assisted conception treatment and have a nationally leading pre-implantation genetic diagnosis service.
Main duties of the job
The Director of Fertility Science & HFEA Person Responsible must demonstrate an ability to lead. They must be honest, show integrity and have an ability to show insight into difficult situations. We expect to see a commitment to continuous improvement; fulfilment of the HFEA key behaviours for a Person Responsible; vision and caring development for the service and team.
The post holder is the lead healthcare scientists in fertility. They are responsible and accountable for the management of the therapeutic, diagnostic and scientific services provided including the Preimplantation Genetic Testing and Diagnostic Andrology services.
The post holder will be responsible for the effective day to day operation of the therapeutic laboratory services of the BWH Fertility Centre. They must ensure both run efficiently, productively, safely and successfully and within the terms of the HFEA Act and code of practice; UKAS accreditation requirements; as well as other relevant legislation.
The post holder is required to have detailed knowledge and understanding of national and international legislation, developing and implementing changes as required in this specialised area. In addition they will be responsible for overseeing monitoring performance including developing key performance indicators, managing quality control within the service, creation and implementation of policies and protocols, and facilitate development of the service, both long and short term.
