Job summary
The Department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) Department at Birmingham Children's Hospital, a leading specialist paediatric centre with an international reputation. The role is for a fixed term 12-month post and ideal for those who have completed higher surgical training and wish to develop a special interest in Paediatric ENT Surgery.
The post holder will be expected to have a strong interest in Paediatric ENT Surgery and be at CCT level or equivalent. The post holder will be performing general paediatric ENT surgery while developing a subspecialist expertise under the direction of the nominated clinical consultant supervisors. The job plan will be as shown below in section 4, but BWC would expect the successful candidate to be flexible with their working commitments to a total of 10 programmed activities per week (plus on-call commitments).
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the multi-disciplinary teaching and research programme for ENT surgery at BWC.
The post-holder would also be required to carry out audit and when appropriate, take a guiding role for the junior registrars in the audit activities of the department at BWC.
The appointee will participate in a daytime on-call rota for ENT surgery emergencies and will be required to cover out of hours duties on one fixed night per week for the Children's Hospital only.
Main duties of the job

Management of patient care under the direction of the Consultants in the specialty.

Works together with patients, families and professionals to facilitate decision-making.

Provide high quality care for patients, including accurate documentation

Attendance & participation at clinics, theatre sessions, ward rounds and clinical meetings as required.

Seeking advice or assistance from senior colleagues as required according to level of skills, and knowledge.

Undertaking procedures which will be directly or indirectly supervised.

Contributing to effective communication within the clinical teams

Part of a 1 in 6 rota non-resident

Adherence to the clinical protocols of the specialty/hospital and to support developments/practices and new ways of working for the efficient and effective delivery of patient care.

Participation in clinical audit

Participation in teaching / training

Maintain training requirements including mandatory & statutory training

Participate in service developments
