This locum microbiologist post offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated microbiologist to join a microbiology and infection prevention team at a specialized paediatric and women's NHS trust.
Though experience in paediatric microbiology is desirable, candidates with a general microbiology background will be welcomed. Appropriate support will be given. A part-time post can be considered on agreement.
The Microbiology department at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is currently located on the Birmingham Children's Hospital site. Although the expectation will be for the post to support the demands from both the Birmingham Women's hospital and Birmingham Children's hospital.
Main duties of the job
The Microbiology Department based at the Children's Hospital site is currently UKAS-accredited for its bacteriology work. We provide a wide spectrum of specialist diagnostic microbiology services, including providing advice on diagnosis and management of infectious diseases in complex paediatric, obstetrics and gynecology patients. Specialties at BWC include paediatric and neonatal intensive care, cardiac surgery, gastroenterology, hepatology, nephrology, transplant services, oncology and neuro-oncology.
You must be fully registered with the GMC or within 3 months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at interview stage.
Support and benefits to assist with international relocation are available. The Trust will reimburse expenses in the UK for one pre-interview visit for short listed candidates.

- Good knowledge of and ability to use both spoken and written English
- Ability to cope with and effectively organise the workload of a consultant
