Job summary
The post holder will provide a comprehensive administrative service to the Cardiology Team at Birmingham Children's Hospital. This role requires close liaison with all clinical and administrative staff. This role will require the successful candidate to be able to manage waiting lists for both inpatients and outpatients, help organizing consultant diaries, typing clinic letters, and answering patient calls.
This role will be based within the secretarial team. The post holder will act as the secretary providing professional, confidential and comprehensive administrative support to the clinical team. You will be first point of contact between patients and the consultant. You will be based at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Main duties of the job
1. Quality checking of day-to- day correspondence and medical reports on behalf of the Consultant and other professionals working within the Department, using a PC with Windows based software, Excel and Word2. To organise the Consultants' clinical, academic and professional commitments by managing his or her diary, co-ordinating outreach clinics and facilitating communication between the Consultant and the associated clinical team.3. To ensure the timely production of an accurate clinical record of each patient episode, using relevant IT systems and databases, including casenote tracking system.4. To liaise between patient/parents and the associated clinical team using face-to-face, telephone and written communication and instigate appropriate action accordingly, as befits the sensitive and complex nature of the information involved.5. Co-ordinate out-patient and in-patient episodes, using relevant IT systems and Trust databases, liaising with relevant clinical and non-clinical Departments.
