Job summary
This is a part time (0.6wte) substantive consultant post in the department of paediatric dermatology at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
In addition to providing general secondary and tertiary level paediatric dermatology, the post holder will be expected to be involved in the care of children with epidermolysis bullosa to support the delivery of this national service. There will be support given to develop any additional competencies needed to fulfil this part of the role.
The post is open to both dermatologists and paediatricians. Applicants need to have completed their respective CCT or be within 6 months of doing so. Applicants with a dermatology CCT will be asked for evidence of additional experience in paediatric dermatology and candidates with a paediatric CCT will be required to have completed the RCPCH SPIN module in Dermatology and have at least 2 years' experience in a paediatric dermatology team. The post is open topeople who wish to work flexibly.
The candidate will be joining a vibrant team of dermatologists and specialist nurses who care for children and adolescents with skin disease. They will also work with members of all the other clinical, academic and research teams at the hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work at consultant level and be expected to join in the care of children with epidermolysis bullosa to support the delivery of this national service. This job will involve general and specialist paediatric dermatology, providing inpatient and outpatient services.This post will comprise 6 Programmed Activities per week, 3 with the epidermolysis bullosa part of the service and 3 with the general dermatology part of the service; totalling 4.5 PAs of Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activities.
On-call arrangements:There is telephone support on call for the Epidermolysis Bullosa Service.
Clinical Governance:The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance structure developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care.
Teaching:The post holder will be expected to play a role in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and the training of other relevant staff groups. This includes participation in the courses and educational sessions run by the department to various healthcare professionals, particularly the annual 5 day course for dermatology specialist trainees.
Research:The post holder will be expected participate in current research within the department as needed.
Mentoring:The Children's Hospital provides mentoring for newly appointed consultants.
