Job summary

We are looking to recruit a suitably experienced Biomedical Scientist to provide effective leadership and management to the Blood Transfusion section at our Birmingham Children's hospital. The Children's site provides a paediatric and neonatal service including diagnosis of leukaemia, haemoglobinopathies and bleeding disorders plus providing an acute service for ED, Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and support of cardiac, liver, burns and bone marrow transplant specialities. We are also a trauma centre and support a busy emergency department.

This is an exciting opportunity to take the department forwards and be involved in some major projects such as the introduction of a new LIMS across the region and help shape service delivery. In the future the role will be expected to manage our Blood Transfusion laboratories across both our Children's and Women's sites.

Appointment to Band 8a would require a significant Blood Transfusion technical experience together with experience at senior management roles. The work is interesting and varied and the department encourages and supports career development.

For enquires please contact: James Taylor, Head BMS, Blood Sciences via email (james.taylor7@nhs.net) or phone: 0121 333 9849.
