Job summary
FTB(YOS) offers a dedicated mental health service to Birmingham Youth Offending Service (BYOS). The general purpose is to offer outreach work to the YOS, in order to improve outcomes, maximize recovery and ensure timely access to the correct pathway within FTB. FTB YOS staff are co-located within the YOS to provide an integrated and collaborative approach.
FTB-YOS is committed to systemic thinking in recognition of the fact that children do not live in isolation. Working across systems within which children live, grow, develop and function can have the most effective impact on outcomes. A 3 phase model (Consultation, Assessment & Intervention) has been developed with this in mind that takes a holistic and aims to adopt a trauma informed approach, working in collaboration with other services, the child and family. FTB-YOS is committed to looking beyond behaviour and taking time to understand what hidden or unexpressed needs may be causing, contributing or maintaining surface behaviours or risks. We work in a recovery focused model and the difficulties that the child presents with as opposed to valuing diagnosis. We take time to remain curious, provide tentative hypotheses drawing from a range of psychological theories.
Main duties of the job
As a clinical nurse specialist within FTB(YOS) no two days will be the same and there will be opportunities to work across all of the 3 phases.High level overview of the role includes:
- Named key worker for young people needing assessment and intervention
- Offering consultation to wider network within YOS
- Attendance at appropriate panels and multiagency meetings
- Wider education around mental health to young people, family/carers/chosen people, network and staff
- Conducting assessments over a longitudinal period and developing formulation of needs
- Delivering evidence based interventions
- Supporting to navigate pathways across BSOL system.
