Job summary

The GTAC has been newly established as part of a national initiative led in collaboration between NHS England (NHSE) and Health Education England (HEE). The GTAC offers a blended (virtual and/or in-person training experience) through a virtual academy hub and in-person spokes mapped to the NHS Genomics Laboratory Hubs (GLHs) and Genomic Medicine Service Alliances (GMSAs).

The GTAC is responsible for developing high-quality education and training content, mapped to professional curricula, underpinned by robust evaluation, and accompanied by assessment. This allows the GTAC to ensure both consistency of education / training delivery and tracking of progress both nationally and across the GLH and GMSA regions.

A range of media to support learner engagement will be utilised, including virtual reality and immersive learning. Education and training is prioritised initially for the specialist genomic laboratory staff, and specialist clinical genomic staff.

We are seeking for up to four individuals with a passion for genomics education, training and workforce development to work as Professional Leads to lead GTAC workstreams within their respective professions. The four Professional Groups are

Genomic Bioinformatics

Genetic Counselling

Clinical Genetics

Clinical Scientist. This Professional Lead will be responsible for leading two genomic laboratory working groups: Genomic Technologies (wet lab) and Data Interpretation & Reporting (dry lab).

Provide strategic leadership and represent the interests of their profession at national, regional, and local level both within the senior GTAC governance structure and externally to relevant stakeholders.

Be accountable for your Professional working group(s) for assessment of learners, educators, and trainers.

Ensure that the education and training resources that are delivered are of high quality.

Lead the establishment of a professional working group and the development and delivery of genomic education and training resources, assessment, and evaluation for the workforce,

This is mainly a remote working role, with a base office in Birmingham. This will be offered as either a secondment or fixed-term contract for up to 2 years between 7.5 hours to 22.5 hours per week (0.2-0.6 WTE).

  • Educated to masters level in a health or scientific- related topic or equivalent experience within NHS
  • Post graduate management/leadership qualification or equivalent experience and proven ability to perform at this level
