Job summary
The postholder will be the lead specialist for the service, required to work autonomously, effectively and efficiently with children, parents/carers, WellChild, and a variety of multidisciplinary teams including those in primary, secondary, tertiary and voluntary care settings.
The post holder will lead in the support and care of infants and CYP with tracheostomies and in tracheostomy-related education. They will provide education, training and holistic care for the children and their families. All infants and CYP with tracheostomies will receive expert care from staff appropriately educated and competent. The post holder will lead and develop this service. Knowledge of changes, policy and care will be disseminated through ward, network and community staff effectively. Infants, CYP with tracheostomies will move safely and swiftly through an appropriate care package from PICU to home or their nearest acute hospital to home. Tracheostomy resources and equipment will be appropriately managed.
Main duties of the job

The post is nurse specialist in tracheostomy care, offering support for families and providing care of infant and CYP with tracheostomies. The post holder will be providing a key link between:
Inpatient teams (ENT, PICU, Medical & Surgical Specialties, Respiratory and Long-term ventilation, Therapy Services)
Community teams
Local hospitals within the Midlands Network,
Patient and families.
The post holder would be expected to support regional hospitals in developing standards of care for infants and CYP with tracheostomies and working alongside the ENT Specialist Nurse, the Trust Tracheostomy Group and incorporating National Tracheostomy Safety Project developments.
