Birmingham Children's Hospital is currently recruiting for a Senior Clinical Fellow (LAS) to join Paediatric Neurosurgery Department for the period of 6 months between February 2024 to September 2024.

Although this is officially a non-training post for service for a period of 6 months, it will allow the successful candidate to learn and have basic hands-on experience in Paediatric Neurosurgery at a registrar level.

Paediatric Neurosurgery at the Birmingham Children's Hospital is well established undertaking more than 500 cranial and spinal operations per year. It has also been designated as one of the centres for Paediatric Epilepsy Surgery and is also the Major Trauma Centre for the West Midlands. Since 1988 the Unit was recognised, funded and designated as a Supra-regional centre for craniofacial surgery by the Department of Health. It is one of four such centres in England and Wales. A full range of craniofacial conditions are treated both in adults and in children with an emphasis on paediatric congenital abnormalities.

Main duties of the job

This post holder will be a full member of the paediatric neurosurgery team and will be required to be fully involved with the pre-operative assessment of patients referred to the consultants. In addition, he/she will be required to attend, assist with and carry out as appropriate, surgical treatment under the supervision of the consultants.

The post holder will be fully involved in the post-operative management of all cases. The trust fellow will share the on-call rota with the other registrars which at present is a 1:6 24 hour partial shift (non-resident).
