Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a friendly, cohesive Paediatric Intensive Care and Critical Care transport teams in a busy department with an excellent reputation.

Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital is a dedicated children's hospital providing secondary level paediatric services for the City of Birmingham, and a full range of tertiary level services for the West Midlands region (population 5.2m). Many of its specialist services extend their referral base beyond the regional boundaries. It also hosts a number of national services. There is an active research and paediatric training programme within the hospital.

This locum Consultant post has 10PAs of which 8 are clinical PAs and 2 are SPAs. The appointee will undertake clinical and SPA sessions in PICU, HDU+ and KIDS no a 50:10:40 basis.

Applicants who do not wish to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will join the dedicated PIC, HDU+, and KIDS teams to provide high quality service delivery, maintain standards and protocols, to provide teaching and perform audit.

  • Minimum of two years training in an approved paediatric intensive care medicine department plus six months (minimum) of anaesthetics (stand-alone), or completed PICM GRID training in a unit/rotation and been signed off by GMC (approval via PICM ISAC) - OR - Existing practicing consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine including transport oOr Equivalent with evidence that this training has been signed off
