Job summary

We are expanding our highly motivated and skilled team of Paediatric Emergency Medicine Advanced Practitioners in the Emergency Department at Birmingham Children's Hospital. 68,000 children and young people, aged 0-16 years, attend our department every year with a broad range of medical and trauma presentations. We are the regional major trauma centre and have a number of highly specialised medical and surgical teams within the hospital.

Main duties of the job

Clinical assessment, examination and investigation of the undifferentiated undiagnosed medical, surgical or trauma patient presenting to the Emergency Department.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (NMC part 1, Children or Adult with extensive paediatric experience) or equivalent allied health care professional registration (HCPC)
  • Core Paediatric Emergency Medicine Skills and competencies. These may include but are not limited to triage/advanced assessment, cannulation, use of PGDs, requesting radiological imaging, care of patients of all ages requiring illness/trauma resuscitation.
  • Qualification in teaching and supporting students in clinical practice
  • Degree level education
  • Committed to participation and completion of MSc Advanced Practice, including non-medical prescribing module
  • Committed to participate in and complete Paediatric Emergency Medicine AP competency programme
  • Committed to participate in and complete the Royal College of Emergency Medicine - Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practitioner curriculum (children)
  • BLS or PILS provider

Desirable

  • Minor Injuries Practitioner qualification
  • Leadership course/module
  • Paediatric Assessment course or equivalent
  • Management course/ module
  • EPLS/APLS provider/instructor

KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE

Essential
