Job summary

The Birmingham Womens and Childrens Hospital Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join the perfusion team as a trainee perfusionist. Our perfusion department performs 350-400 paediatric perfusion cases per year with a variety of congenital heart defects.

Our Hypoplastic Left Heart and complex Pulmonary Atresia programme provides a large variety of challenging procedures. The department also provides perfusion support for the hospitals commissioned ECLS service. We are enthusiastic about personal development, career progression, research and teaching and are seeking an excellent communicator to work within the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The perfusion training will be based at Birmingham Childrens Hospital (clinical) and the University of Bristol (academic) on block release during the academic year. You will be fully supported to gain your accreditation with the Society of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain and Ireland and a MSc in Perfusion Science after two years. You will need a minimum of a 2;1 BSc in a science or medicine related subject or equivalent. The main role is within cardiac operating theatres, being an integral part of the team, but also extra roles and competencies are involved. Once qualified, we will support you working independently and participating in an on call rota.
