Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for Interpreters, with the following languages Arabic, Romanian, Urdu and Punjabi to join the Interpreting and Cultural Insight Team. The role will be working as part of our team of in-house bank Interpreters. Working flexibly on temporary basis, according to demand.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Interpreter with relevant work experience to work at the heart of the Trust, developing key working relationships with patients, families and staff.

As part of the team, you will be working in all areas of the BWC Trust, including our specialist Childrens Hospital, Womens Hospital and Forward-Thinking Birmingham. Familiar with NHS settings, you will use your significant knowledge and experience to move from different medical subject matters throughout the day.

You will be an advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion, working with the Patient Experience team to ensure patient information is collected through the Trusts Friends and Family Test, patient stories and feeding back case studies to the Interpreting Team. You will have a keen interest in cultural awareness, health inequalities and reducing barriers to healthcare. Main duties of the job

The Interpreter will be required to work in all areas across the Trust. This includes Interpreting in complex and sometimes difficult situations, such as palliative care, end of life care and bereavement. The Interpreter will be confident in Interpreting in a mental health setting for our Forward-Thinking Birmingham patients and families.

The Interpreter will have a good understanding of Safeguarding policies and will be confident in escalating any concerns to a senior member of staff. The Interpreter will have an awareness of when a concern needs to be escalated and the urgency on which to place the escalation.

The Interpreter will be an excellent communicator. Able to work confidently as part of a team, offering ideas and suggestions for improvements. They will be able to provide detailed feedback to Interpreting Manager about Interpreting cases.

The Interpreter will use their knowledge to support staff with cultural awareness to improve communication between staff, patients/family. They will provide a health information service to non-English speaking patients, carers, families and visitors and signposting to relevant services and agencies as required.
