Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cancer Support Worker (Band 4) to join the Gynaecological Oncology service. The post holder will support patients with gynaecological cancers by working closely with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Advanced Practice Nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver a coordinated and compassionate service.
The Cancer Support Worker will provide practical, emotional and administrative support to patients at different stages of their cancer pathway. This will include acting as a point of contact for patients and families, supporting clinics and MDT activity, coordinating appointments and investigations, and ensuring effective communication between patients and the clinical team.
The successful candidate will be caring, professional and motivated, with a strong commitment to improving the patient experience. You will have good interpersonal and communication skills, an organised approach to work and the ability to prioritise tasks in a busy clinical environment. Experience of working with people affected by cancer or within a healthcare setting is desirable.
This role requires an individual who is reliable, flexible and adaptable, able to work independently within agreed protocols and under the direction of registered staff. You will be expected to work collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating the Trust's values and contributing to the efficient day to day running of the service.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will form an integral part of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team in caring for the physical, social and psychological needs of patients diagnosed with cancer and their carers throughout their cancer care and following treatment.
- The post holder will work co-ordinate and monitor the completion of holistic needs assessment by patients and escalating any concerns to the CNS.
- The post holder will provide administration support to the CNS team by triaging phone calls, supporting with completing and sending of referrals, liaising with community teams, updating, and maintaining databases.
- The post holder will run the cancer support worker telephone follow up clinic.
