Our Pharmacy Department plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing the Trust's reputation.This post is a permanent post and will be an excellent opportunity for a qualified pharmacy technician to develop their skills and knowledge within a secondary care setting in a specialist hospital.You will be a key member of staff working within the Dispensary and Day Units helping to deliver an effective and safe service and assisting with the day to day running and counselling patients on their medications.You must have excellent communicational skills, the ability to work on your own as well as within a team and be highly motivated to deliver excellent patient care.

- Participate in all aspects of dispensing according to operational guidelines and departmental procedures
- Gain in depth knowledge and skill in the handling and use of systemic anti-cancer drugs
- Gain experience in receiving, storage and the dispensing of Controlled Drugs
- Actively undertake the provision of a ward based / patient focused pharmacy service, in particular the day units
- Help with the provision of efficient stock control, ensuring correct storage and rotation of drugs
- Gain experience and understanding of the procedures for stock ordering, distribution and stock control
- Oversee and participate in daily stock check duties (KTAKE)
- Identify when prescribed medicines are unavailable, ensure they are ordered and refer to relevant pharmacist / senior technician / team
- Receive prescriptions from in and out patient areas from nurses, HCAs, etc
- Participate in weekend and bank holiday rotas
- Become familiar with computer systems, including EPIC

- BTEC Pharmaceutical Science, NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
- Qualified Pharmacy Technician Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council
- Evidence of continued professional development complying with the requirements as set out by the General Pharmaceutical Council to maintain registration.
Desirable
- Accredited in an recognised Medicines Management /Medicines Optimisation Programme or willing to undertake the HEELaSE Medicines Optimisation course if not already accredited
- Accredited in the CPPE technician checking accreditation programme (ACPT)(or equivalent ) or willing to undertake this
Experience
Essential
- Recent experience of working in hospital pharmacy or retail pharmacy
- Experience of dealing with members of the public
Desirable
- Experience of working with pharmacy computer stock control systems and other computer software including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
