Staff Nurse (BAND 5) - Private Surgical Unit

Job summary
We are currently seeking a highly motivated, individual to join a busy team of dynamic dedicated Surgery Nurse.
The Private Care Surgical Unit consists of a 6 bedded day care facility and admissions unit for Private patients undergoing both surgery and interventional radiology. It includes caring for inpatient surgical admissions preoperatively as well as day cases post-operatively. Additionally, we have 2 consulting rooms to accommodate a nurse-led pre-assessment clinic for patients undergoing day case procedures.
The Unit also provides a pre-assessment service to assess Surgery patients for surgical procedures which include specialty areas such breast, urology, plastics, gynaecology, head and neck.
It is essential that the candidate is able to work using their own initiative, and to be able to work well as part of a team. You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, to work under pressure and be able to provide to a high standard of care.
You must be flexible in your approach have excellent communication skills and have management experience.
A flexible approach regarding the working hours is essential as the days/hours you will be required to work during the week can vary.
Pre-assessment experience is desirable, training will be offered to the right individual.
You will need to have recent general surgical experience.Evidence of continuing professional development will be required.
Main duties of the job
- To plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way, which has been drawn up in conjunction with the co-ordinator of the shift
- To ensure completion of surgical pre-admission checklist in accordance with the trust clinical guidance and protocols on the day of surgery and promptly escalate any abnormal findings to the nurse in charge.
- To develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.
- To communicate with the patient and family members regarding expectations, relevant information and any developments throughout their surgical pathway whilst acting as a patient advocate.
