Job summary
Applications are invited from experienced and skilled doctors for the post of Specialty Doctor for the Medical Day Units to start as soon as possible.
The successful post holder will provide the on-site medical service for patients undergoing Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments at The Sir William Rous Unit based at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has a well-established partnership agreement with Kingston Hospital to provide oncology services for the local population and this post is central to the continued success of that venture.

Main duties of the job
This Specialty Doctor post is integral to the day-to-day running of the Medical Day Unit and associated medical oncology services at the Kingston site. The post holder will have the opportunity to work across multiple tumour sites to help ensure that patient's treatments are delivered with exceptional levels of quality.
This post is ideally suited to doctors who are interested in expanding their experience in chemotherapy and SACT delivery and developing their competence at managing oncology patients in preparation for more senior roles.

Job responsibilities
- Provide excellent day to day clinical care for patients attending the Medical Day Unit under the care of specific consultants specialising in Upper and Lower Gastro-Intestinal Cancer, Lung, Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer
- Medically assess patients for their fitness for treatment and arrange appropriate routine investigations
- Ensure that the Medical Consultants are kept informed of their patients progress at all times
- Prescribe systemic oncology treatments as per the consultants treatment plan for individual patients
- Provide information regarding disease management, treatment side effects for patients and their families
- Contribute to, and where appropriate lead, outpatient and prescription clinics
- Take informed consent for all patients undergoing systemic treatment
- Maintain an excellent standard of documentation to ensure that patient information is
- communicated effectively and contemporaneously on the electronic notes system
- Make referrals to appropriate specialists as required
- Work effectively with the nursing, pharmacy and front of house teams on the unit to achieve an excellent streamlined service for patients and their relatives
- Review any patient who attends the unit who may become unwell, working in conjunction with the inpatient team where required
- Manage acute clinical incidences on the medical day unit
- Take phone calls from patients and their families, answering any questions they might have regarding their disease, treatment or side effects.
- Undergo annual appraisal to assess performance and promote personal development
- Provide current and timely medical reports
- Work effectively as part of the medical day unit teams to contribute to the development of the service.
- Carry out all duties related to private care as required
- Maintain up to date evidence based information through regular continuous professional development
- Provide teaching to the medical, nursing and pharmacy staff on the unit as required
