Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced clinical leader as Sister/ Charge Nurse for Centre for Urgent Care (CUC) and The Royal Marsden Macmillan Hotline (RMMH) based at the Chelsea site. We are looking for an outstanding individual to lead a team of highly experienced nurses who provide excellent nursing care and strive to make a difference.
CUC provides advanced nursing care to patients who present with acute symptoms related to their disease or treatment, supports patients on an ambulatory care pathway, or provides care for elective patients booked for day case procedures.
The RMMH, a 24/7 service which provides Royal Marsden patients with a single point of access for support when they become unwell because of their disease or treatment.
This role involves day to day management and co-ordination of both CUC and RMMH in addition, the Sister/ Charge Nurse will be an integral part of the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) Team working closely with our AOS consultants and team of Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs). The Sister/ Charge Nurse should be an experienced Registered Nurse that uses advanced assessment, clinical decision making and diagnostic skills to appropriately manage patients. There will also be opportunity to be involved in service improvements within CUC and RMMH.
The working pattern for this role is Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.

The post holder will lead a team of registered nurses, nursing associates, health care support workers and service administrators to deliver a safe, effective and efficient service in the Centre for Urgent Care and the Royal Marsden Macmillan Hotline in the Chelsea site.

- Provide clinical leadership on a day to day basis in both the CUC and RMMH, co-ordinating both staff and patients to ensure the delivery of a safe, effective and efficient service.
- Practice at an advanced level using NEWS2, history taking and physical assessment skills to triage or assess patients on presentation to the CUC, or over the phone via the hotline.
- Perform Venepuncture, Cannulation and access CVADs to obtain IV access and blood test collection.
- Order and interpret blood tests as appropriate, and act on results as necessary.
- Order diagnostic tests as appropriate (bedside and radiological).
- Prescribe/administer medication within the remit of patient group directives and or non-medical nurse prescribing.
- To ensure patients are appropriately and safely triaged or transferred to the nearest emergency department or tertiary treatment centre when a medical or surgical emergency is suspected.
- To work collaboratively with a variety of multi-disciplinary teams including Clinical Site Practitioners, the Acute Oncology Service, Medical and Clinical Oncology, Haematology and Surgical teams across the RMH Trust, to ensure patients are transferred to the most appropriate place to receive timely and appropriate care when assessment and/or treatment is required.
- To work in partnership with the Acute Oncology Service and other admitting teams, to ensure patients are admitted, assessed, treated and discharged from CUC in a safe and appropriate time frame.
