Job summary

Fixed term (12 months) Band 7 Senior Radioisotope and Imaging Physicist in the Radioisotope Physics group of the Royal Marsden NHSFT, Sutton.

The successful candidate will join a team of clinical and research physicists providing support to the Nuclear Medicine areas of imaging, molecular radiotherapy and radiation safety.

The successful candidate will be expected to support a range of multi-centre clinical trials including the development of site set up and imaging manuals, quality assurance programmes and trial protocols and the analysis of clinical trial data including dosimetry for molecular radiotherapy procedures. Some travel to participating sites may be required. The candidate will assist the Principal Clinical Scientist with the day-to-day running of a Corelab for molecular imaging to assess the imaging and quality assurance requirements of trial sites and to facilitate the communication between the multi-disciplinary research teams. Some travel to participating centres may be required. The radioisotope group has an active research and development program, particularly in the areas of imaging and dosimetry for radionuclide therapy, and the post-holder will be expected to participate in this.

There will be scope for the successful candidate to provide technical support to the nuclear medicine department at both sites to maintain professional registration.

Applicants should hold a degree in a relevant subject, preferably with postgraduate training in medical physics.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will carry out research and development pertaining to specific research projects. The post-holder will be expected to follow through an agreed program of work packages pertaining to these studies. The 1 year fixed term post is primarily based at the Sutton site although it is anticipated that work could also be carried out at the Chelsea site, as well as at collaborating centres. There is also scope for the post-holder to participate in the clinical support rota in order to maintain clinical competencies.
