Job summary

We have an excellent opportunity for a Clinical Research Operations to join the Clinical Genomics Translational Research Unit at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

We provide an extensive repertoire of genomic testing across cutting edge technology, resulting in accurate profiling of solid tumours and haematological malignancies, directing novel treatment strategies, personalised to the patient.

The Operations Manager will work closely with experts in oncology at The Royal Marsden and across the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub, to establish a research portfolio.

Our innovative genomic practice has led to successful collaborations in new clinical trials, as well as successful partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, bringing novel testing to patients sooner. We have experience in delivering large national projects, such as 100,000 Genomes Project and programmes supported by Cancer Research UK and the Institute of Cancer Research, whilst leading in genomic profiling of cancer patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team of research scientists focused on innovation and quality of service. The goal is to develop and apply the most reliable and comprehensive genomic diagnostics to enable accurate clinical decisions that directly benefit patients at the Royal Marsden, in the North Thames region and nationally. The work takes place in the Clinical Genomics Translational Research Laboratory at The Centre for Molecular Pathology at The Royal Marsden NHS FT and The Institute of Cancer Research in Sutton.

  1. Co-develop and be responsible for the operational delivery of the research unit strategy alongside the Scientific Director, consultants / researchers.
  2. Manage, collate, maintain and monitor existing research, publications and audit activities and outputs of the research unit.
  3. Provide overall financial management of the research unit budget, and effective management of individual clinical trial budgets, including financial reporting as required.
  4. Act as an authorising signatory for the research budget within limits agreed.
  5. Manage finances and developing systems in compliance with the relevant standing financial instructions.
  6. Keep track of report deadlines and assist in their preparation.
  7. On a project-by-project basis, assist with the preparation and submission of research funding applications for R&D projects
  8. Lead the coordination of input fromco-investigators,RM/ICR departments, including finance, ICR business support unit, research operations, legal, patientand public involvement and from external collaborating organisations, including finance and contracts input.
  9. Provide templates, and guide applicants on requirements for funding applications.
  10. 10.Liaise with both RMH and ICR ICT teams on IT development required by translational research team.
