Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a highly experienced and competent band 8b Paediatric Neuropsychologist/Clinical Psychologist specialising in paediatric neuropsychology. You will be joining a well recognised specialist paediatric psychology team working with children and teenagers who have cancer in a specialist cancer hospital (The Royal Marsden Hospital). The clinical psychology and neuropsychology services are an integrated service where neuropsychology is seen as an integral rather than separate part of the child's psychological formulation.
The successful applicant will be the pathway lead for the neuropsychology service and Deputy Team Lead. As such, candidates will need a significant amount of experience conducting neuropsychological assessments as well as experience of working with children with more acute neuropsychological presentations, as well as be confident managing general clinical risk issues such as suicidal ideation, in order to be able to advise more junior staff members and the MDT regarding management of such issues. The role offers flexibility in terms of the proportion of generic clinical work vs neuropsychological work depending on the interests of the successful candidate, however, some generic clinical work will be required in order to ensure that the post holder is familiar with the ward, and has a good understanding of the issues that often arise in paediatric oncology services.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone who is looking for career development in terms of neuropsychology and to develop their leadership skills. The successful candidate will have specialised in neuropsychology with broad clinical/neuro rehabilitation experience and skills in working with children, young people and families. Whilst the post holder would ideally have done a PGDip or PGCert course in Paediatric Neuropsychology and have the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology or Certificate in Clinical Neuropsychology Practice, candidates with solid neuropsychological experience who are currently undergoing this process or are interested in starting it will be considered. Funding for monthly specialist external supervision and for any courses that need to be completed/additional CPD is available.
