Job summary
Applications are invited for a Senior BMS with specialist knowledge of Biochemistry and a working knowledge of IT and LIMS. As a member of the departmental team, you will be involved in processing of samples, training, quality assurance, and maintenance of equipment. You will also be expected to be involved in streamlining and modernising processes within the section. The department operates a late shift pattern from 1600hr to midnight and thereafter an on call service at the Sutton site on weekdays and 24hrs on call service at the weekend which you will be required to participate in.The laboratories are open for routine work between the hours of 0800 and midnight on weekdays and are currently equipped with Ortho Vitros 5600, Sebia Capillarys 2, Sebia Hydrasys, Binding Site SPAplus, DiaSorin Liaison and a Bio-Rad D10 HbA1c analysers.Applicants must have experience working in a routine Biochemistry Laboratory and must be HCPC registered.This is a key role which includes maintaining and developing our LIMS, EPIC/Beaker, and the middleware associated with new analyser platforms that have recently been installed. The post holder will be involved in configuration, testing and maintenance of Beaker/EPIC and IM middleware along with any other new applications that are implemented in this rapidly changing department.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will deliver a fit for purpose Blood Sciences service and is primarily responsible for the delivery and development of the analytical service. The post holder will rotate through all sections of the department. The post holder will be responsible for the IT aspects of the service including configuration and UAT of LIMS and Middleware applications to ensure a high-quality analytical service. They will also be involved with the day-to-day organisation of the section, workflow, training, and development of staff in their section, maintaining at all times the required high standards and quality in all areas.
The key working relationships will be with staff in Biochemistry and IT colleagues, but the post holder will be expected to liaise with staff throughout Pathology and the Trust. There will be frequent occasions when the post holder takes sole responsibility for work, for example when no senior staff are present.

- To ensure knowledge of all instrumentation is up to date
- To be competent to operate the laboratory equipment to deliver the required analytical service.
