Job summary

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria. Applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years' experience in the same role (Band 3 HCA within the NHS) to meet the salary requirements to qualify for sponsorship.

Communicate at all times with tact and empathy, and interact appropriately with patients and relatives/carers where barriers to communication may exist (eg. challenging behaviour, varying levels of ability, where English is not the first language)

Main duties of the job

This job involves working as a health care assistant on a very busy intensive care unit. We are looking for people who enjoy team work and looking after patients and their families. You will be there to support the families, patients and nurses within the critical care unit. Your role will also involve stocking up and keeping the area clean and tidy.

Our healthcare assistants also support the rehabilitation needs of our patients and you will also be working closely with the physio team.

You will be responsible for supporting the nursing team in their daily tasks. You will help with the hygiene needs of the patients and pressure area care. You will be helping to stock and clean equipment and keeping the bed spaces clutter free.

You will help set up bed spaces to receive critically unwell patients, and help to check that the kit is available.

You will be available to talk to patients and their families when they may just need someone to sit with them.

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification (Health and Social Care preferred) or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of personal care and related procedures.
  • Level 2 English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Care Certificate from a Ofqual regulated awarding organisation.
  • Able to communicate with patients, colleagues and other departments in an efficient coherent way.
  • Non-judgmental attitude. Manages own work and time effectively.
  • Evidence of good time keeping and punctuality. Able to accept instruction/direction.
  • Can use own initiative within own competence.
  • Have basic I.T. Skills. Manual dexterity Numeric skills Visual acuity
  • Good attendance record
  • Continually works under supervision with the supervisor/manager close be/available by phone/bleep.
  • NHS experience or NHS primary care experience is required or an internationally educated nurse/midwife/doctor who has worked in an acute NHS Trust within recent years

  • Recognises and prevents situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of an individual.
  • Able to work flexibly when the needs of the service demands.
