Physiotherapy Associate Practitioner, Orthopaedic Team

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Band 4 Physiotherapy Associate Practitioner to join our well-established Orthopaedic Physiotherapy team at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester.

The role will work as part of the Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Team providing a high quality and comprehensive therapy service to patients. This will include inpatient work with adults following traumatic and elective orthopaedic surgery.

Chichester is a beautiful historic city situated adjacent to the South Downs National Park, the sea and with excellent transport links to London and across Southern England. You will be joining a strong and supportive Physiotherapy team within the top performing University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. Main duties of the job

The orthopaedic therapy team is supportive and highly experienced. As a physiotherapy associate practitioner in the Ortho team you will have the opportunity to have joint clinical and non-clinical supervision on a regular basis. You will work with a strong team of band 6's and 7's and will be supported by skilled and experienced support workers. You will have the opportunity to work closely with visiting Students.

You will work within the ward environment and outpatient joint school within a competency framework - this is a lively and driven team with focuses on best practice and care.

You will carry a clinical and administrative caseload.

Experience

Essential

  • Relevant theoretical and practical training at NVQ 3 or equivalent in Health & Social Care or related subject (e.g. degree)
  • Experience of working as a Band 3 within the therapy setting
  • Good general education including English and Mathematics

Desirable

  • Experience of working as a Band 3 in an inpatient setting
  • CPD portfolio of relevant learning and development

Skills

Essential

  • Experience working with individuals who have communication difficulties such as a hearing impairment or dementia.
  • Able to recognise and interpret key physiological and clinical information such as heart rate, blood pressure, and signs of deterioration in a patient's condition. Training will be provided on use of protocols in assessment of patients.
  • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft publishing software such as Word and Excel.
  • Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues

Desirable

  • Experience of working with orthopaedic patients - good handling skills and instruction of exercise programmes
  • Experience of working within defined parameters/protocols/ competency framework
