We have an established General Surgical ACP programme that works across the ward, the SDU and faster diagnosis Colorectal service. The roles will join the existing ACP team and rotate between the clinical areas

Main duties of the job

The ACP role on the ward is integrated into the surgical team to provide service delivery for in patients. In the Surgical Assessment Unit the ACP will work with support from the Surgical registrar and SAU consultant. You will be responsible for the initial assessment of SAU patients, as well as organising their initial investigations and formulating a management plan. The patient mix will be GP referrals as well as returning ward patients for reviews. The Faster diagnostic clinic role will work with support from the Colorectal Nurse Consultant for Faster Diagnosis Service. There will be specific bed-based/clinic teaching on a weekly basis in addition to the rest of the teaching opportunities.

The job plan has 10-20%non clinical protected time to achieve all four pillars of advanced practice.

The trainee ACP band 7 will be willing to undertake, or is currently registered on an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. Consideration will be given to applicants who are or have completed the physical assessment module, are registered non-medical prescribers or are completing the NMP course. They will demonstrate a commitment to completing an MSc in Advanced Practice. Funding and 20% non clinical time will be provided to undertake the MSc.
