Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time band 6 Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist at Worthing Hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will be working as an integral part of the CNS and wider lung team, involved in all aspects of the patients' pathway from diagnosis and treatment, through to follow-up and supporting patients living with a lung cancer diagnosis. The successful applicant will be keen to advance their clinical and leadership skills, supporting the development of the service with the band & CNS's. They will be dynamic, forward thinking, hard working and willing to step up to the challenge that cancer care faces . Main duties of the job

To provide clinical excellence, leadership, innovation and mastery within a speciality, or group of specialties, through highly developed specialist knowledge. Providing specialist information and support for patients and carers during the diagnosis and treatment of cancer; ensuring patients have psychological assessment and intervention as necessary; supporting MDT to ensure the patient has a timely journey through the pathway; supporting, training and up skilling other teams; co-ordination of pathway with close working with cancer centre; management of cancer and treatment effects; setting and working to high standards; identifying specialist needs and care planning with patients through Holistic Needs Assessment.

  • Registered General Nurse Educated to Post Graduate Diploma level or equivalent level of experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Oncology &/or specialty related qualification or equivalent experience
  • Professional Body: NMC Level 1

Desirable

  • Degree in Nursing/Health related subject
  • Knowledge of cancer treatments and symptom control
  • Relevant post-registration experience in cancer, palliative care, or the specialty
  • Advanced Communication Skills training
