Job summary
Princess Royal Critical Care is an 8 bedded general ITU/HDU that is staffed flexibly depending on the acuity of the patients. We are a small friendly team, dedicated to providing the highest standards of care to critically ill patients. We support an active, acute medical take, ED, a growing complex elective surgery take, maternity services and some emergency surgery. We work closely with our larger sister unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and occasional cross site working is required to maintain safe service provision.
We have Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse posts available. We are looking for a caring enthusiastic nurses with at least 2 years critical care experience. The critical care course qualification and mentor/preceptorship experience are essential experience for these posts. We expect high standards of clinical competency and excellent communication skills are vital to ensure the smooth running of the unit at all times and complement our positive team culture. We offer ongoing training, support and professional development and encourage full participation with best practice initiatives and audit.

Main duties of the job

To plan, provide and evaluate skilled evidence-based care for the critically ill patient, L2 & L3.

To support and develop colleagues by mentoring and assessing their skills.

To promote practice development within Critical Care.

To fulfil Local / Trust requirements in specified audit / project work.

Under guidance of Team Leader, to undertake performance of development reviews and shift coordination/shift leading in conjunction with /absence of Band 7 Critical Care Nurse
