Job summary

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with subspecialty interests in Orthogeriatric Trauma with Revision Knee Arthroplasty

The appointed candidate will work as part of a large Trauma & Orthopaedic Department across sites including the Major Trauma Centre at Royal Sussex County Hospital and a tertiary elective unit, Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre (SOTC), on the Princess Royal Hospital site, Haywards Heath.

The appointed candidate is expected to manage primary and revision knee arthroplasty, hip fractures and periprosthetic fractures of the lower limb.

Main duties of the job

The clinical duties of the post include the following:o Fragility femoral fracture operatingo Fracture clinics (including virtual),o Revision knee arthroplastyo Elective operating and other roles necessary to support the department. Elective surgery is undertaken at the SOTC which is a GIRFT accredited HVLC Hub.o Engaging with research, audit and all other supporting activities necessary to deliver excellent tertiary care.

On Call Commitment:

The post includes a 1 in 8 weekend on call commitment with an option to join the weekday polytrauma on call rota

  • oBasic medical degree
  • oFRCSOrth or appropriate specialist qualification
  • oFull GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • oCCT in Orthopaedics or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • oEntry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
