Job summary
We are looking for an experienced midwife to join the practice education team co-ordinating education and training for the maternity multi-professional team. You will need to be self-driven, clinically sound, approachable and well organised. In this key role you will work closely with the multi- disciplinary team.
We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.
Main duties of the job
- To provide professional leadership and vision which promotes evidence based, women centred care, autonomous midwifery practice and an integrated maternity service.
- To be an advocate of normality and show a commitment to help 'normalise' the birth experience for women undergoing complicated births wherever possible.
- To be responsible for co-ordinating and implementing the in-service training and continuing professional education of maternity staff, in line with the national agenda and with a focus on evidence based, women centred care.
- To act as a resource for clinical advice and professional direction in midwifery care, promoting an educational environment in the clinical setting.

Patient Care Delivery
- Co-ordinating and implementing the in- service training and continuing professional education of midwifery and associated staff
- The post holder will ensure staff have appropriate training for their defined area of management with regard to Health & safety at Work Regulations COSHH regulations and any Trust mandatory training
- Investigate incidents as required applying RCA where applicable
- Will be required to participate in performance/disciplinary matters with staff
- Participate in the production of an annual TNA based on individual staff personnel development plans
- Routinely measure and analyse standards through a range of audit activity using a range of IT packages
- Significantly contribute to the safeguarding strategy embedded in the Trust by active representation and consequent dissemination of in-house and external safeguarding meetings and their action points
- Ensure that staff access the Trust Child protection mandatory training and are supported with additional training needs as required
- Facilitate and participate in safeguarding children's audits, both nationally and locally, leading within own clinical area as agreed.
- Facilitates appropriate channels of communication for safeguarding updates
- Contributes to the maintenance of effective systems of communication between agencies, both statutory and voluntary
- Employees of the Trust have a responsibility at all times to ensure the wellbeing and safety of children under the care of the organisation and to comply with the Trusts policies and procedures in this.
- The Trust has a statutory duty to ensure that patients, clients and members of the public are consulted and involved in decisions about local health service developments. You should be mindful of this and do what you can, as appropriate to your role and level of responsibility, to meet this duty.
