Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Clinical Engineer at Worthing and St Richards Hospitals. The postholder will support the Clinical Engineering Team as part of a Trust Wide Service.
The successful candidate will be highly competent, dependable with excellent organisational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. You will be technically conversant with the repair and management of a wide range of modern medical devices and be confident with interacting at all levels with engineering and clinical colleagues. Previous experience of medical equipment repair and service will be required, together with a Healthcare Apprenticeship at a minimum of Level 3 Diploma in Engineering or an equivalent level of knowledge skills and experience. There will be a requirement for cross site working.

Main duties of the job
To conduct acceptance checks, repairs and planned preventative maintenance to a wide range of patient connected medical equipment.
Carry out end of life decommissioning as required.
The postholder will also support the Clinical Engineering Specialist Technicians to provide a Trust wide assurance for the safe management of patient connected medical devices.
The post holder consults with clinical and other technical staff to ensure smooth running of activities at site level. The postholder will work across sites as required and be flexible to ensure a cohesive approach with the wider teams

Job responsibilities
Carry out allocated planned preventative maintenance to a wide range of patient connected medical devices
Assist Clinical Engineering Senior Technicians where required
Apply suitable techniques to diagnose problems, including those beyond the scope of manufacturer supplied information. Report unusual fault conditions to manufacturers.
Carry out calibration, quality control, safety and acceptance testing.
Using developing technical and clinical experience, identify potentially hazardous symptoms and faults when in clinical areas or in talking to clinical staff.
Monitor stocks of appropriate components and spares, reordering where necessary to keep an adequate stock.
Liaise with manufacturers to obtain technical and clinical information.
Take responsibility for all tools and equipment within the Post holders care. Ensure workshop facilities are kept clear and well ordered.
Provide occasional technical advice to clinical and other staff groups as required.
Provide assistance to other team members within the Facilities and Estates Division, as appropriate.
Daily use of the Clinical Engineering Database to record all work conducted and to also ensure records are accurate.
The post holder will be required to manage all work that they are given. This will be conducted using the post holders own discretion, following existing departmental/NHS policies and procedures. The post holder will work individually or as part of a multi-disciplinary team, using a full range of facilities to gather information (For example: Medical Equipment database, external manufacturers, MHRA, NPSA) to work within and around competing service demands.
Be familiar with and follow the Trusts incident reporting procedure, with respect to technical faults. (DATIX) Ensure that all investigations are carried out in conjunction with all relevant clinical staff, manufacturers, and other organisations such as the MHRA. (Medicines and Health care Products Regulatory Agency) Complete precise and accurate technical reports.
Occasional requirement to help move/lift/relocate equipment weighing 10-15kg using appropriate lifting techniques. This could be ward based such as bedside critical care devices and in various Technical Workshops across the organisation
Occasionally assist on equipment specification, evaluation, and selection.
