Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join a growing team in a modern, stand-alone Children's Emergency Department by the sea in the South East of England.

Working as part of a busy and vibrant team, you will lead on the delivery of excellent care within the paediatric emergency department, in a new substantive 6 PA post to complement the existing Children's Emergency Department Consultant Team.This post will contribute to the consultant-led care provided in the Children's emergency Department and to increased consultant presence at weekends.

The post is 6PA with flexibility regarding shift pattern. There is a commitment to provide shop-floor care 1:4 weekends.

Main duties of the job

This new post will contribute to the work of a team paediatricians providing consultant delivered and supervised care in the paediatric emergency department.

There is currently a rolling rota to provide:

o A consultant delivered service 0830-2400h in CED 7 days a weeko On call out of hours covering CED

The new posts could include the opportunity to rotate though the below clinical areas if desired:o A consultant delivered service 0830-1700h on HDU Monday to Friday (on call out of hours)o The paediatric Burns service at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinsteado The child protection medical service

To work as part of the consultant, nursing and directorate team to protect and enhance the reputation of the Alex, leading its development as the childrens hospital for the South East Coast region.

To work collaboratively with other specialties

To contribute to undergraduate teaching of medical students at BSMS

To provide high quality postgraduate teaching and experience to doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in training

To support junior doctors in clinical and educational supervisor roles

To ensure our personal and organisational responsibility for safeguarding children and young people is honoured effectively

To ensure our personal and organisational responsibility for the delivery of safe and high quality services for children, responsive to the needs of them and their families, is honoured effectively

To contribute to the delivery of services which are financially responsible and efficient

To work with the Academic Department of Paediatrics and BSMS to establish a respected research programme and presence in national and international peer reviewed journals and meetings

Work effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team, including the CAMHS liaison service

To support the development of innovative models of care, including the development of advanced nursing roles

Essential

  • oBasic medical degree
  • oFRC Paediatric- e.g. FRCS, FRCA, etc.] or its recognised equivalent.
  • oFull and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.
  • oIf you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paeiatrics or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
  • oIf you trained outside the UK, you must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
