Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for 3 new post holders to join the Paediatric Critical Care team at RACH to provide dedicated 24/7 support for the unit as part of the growing team of Paediatric Critical Care / HDU consultants. 2 posts are new and the third post is a replacement for retirement.POST A 8 PAs(6.5 Clinical /1.5 SPA) POST B: 8 PAs(6.5 Clinical /1.5 SPA) POST C: 6.5 PAs (5.25 DCC/1.25 SPA)

The Alex is the only dedicated children's hospital on the South East coast, and as such the role provides the chance to work closely with a wide team of peers, providing tertiary care to children and young people up to the age of 17 years old, living in Brighton and Hove, East and West Sussex and East Surrey areas.

The post is 6.5 pa (5 Clinical /1.5 SPA) or 8 pa (6.5 Clinical /1.5 SPA) with flexibility regarding shift pattern. There is a commitment to provide shop-floor care at a frequency of 1:8 weekends.All posts are open to working less than full time and there is flexibility in job planning of working days and shifts however all posts must contribute to evenings and weekends and on calls.

Main duties of the job

The clinical duties of the post include the following:This post will contribute to the work of the Critical Care Team paediatricians providing consultant delivered and supervised care in the HDU.There is currently a rolling rota to provide A consultant delivered service 0830-1700h in HDU 7 days a week On-call, out-of-hours covering HDU the rest of the timeThis post may also include the opportunity to undertake working in the following clinical areas undertaking Child Protection Medicals at RACH General Paediatric Outpatient Clinics/HDU follow-up Or opportunity to do clinics within a particular specialist field

We would also be open to discussion with potential candidates to continue or develop specific clinical interests in outpatient provision For example., weekly or fortnightly general paediatric/allergy/respiratory or other sub-speciality clinics. The commitment to OOH evenings and weekends would still need to be covered form within the total job planned Pas and clinic frequency would be worked around these commitments.

Essential

  • oBasic medical degree
  • oFRC [specialty - e.g. FRCS, FRCA, etc.] or its recognised equivalent.
  • oFull and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.
  • oIf you trained in the UK, you must also have a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatrics or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
