Job summary

We are looking for an efficient and friendly maternity Care Assistant/Admin assistant to join our team in outpatient Antenatal clinic.

You will be assisting in the running of the clinic including supporting the Midwifery and Admin team providing care for high risk pregnant people.

Main duties of the job

  • To actively take part in meeting the needs of the patients under the supervision of a qualified midwife, working within the Trust's policies and procedures and the philosophy of the department.
  • To be an effective member of a multidisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of a Registered Midwife (RM).
  • Where appropriate, to continue to develop own capabilities in nursing tasks in order to deliver a high standard of care under the supervision of a RM.
  • To participate in ensuring effective use of resources and reduction of wastage within the department.
  • The post holder will have direct contact with patients in their capacity as an MCA/receptionist within the outpatient setting, under the supervision of a RM.
  • To participate in the reception of patients attending as outpatients to ensure that they experience a smooth and effective journey through the department, this will include working closely with all staff in this area.
  • To handle all enquiries in an efficient, polite and courteous manner providing a caring and helpful service to NHS patients

Job responsibilities

  • To book outpatient appointments within the timescales required by the clinician ensuring that the Clinic capacity is strictly adhered to. Checking doctors leave requests and enter onto spreadsheet, blocking clinics as required.
  • To co-ordinate the input of demographic, personal and scheduling details of patients hospital attendances and outcomes using the computerised administration system to provide the Trust with an up to date record of patient activity and information.
  • To ensure Secondary Outcomes are entered into the patient record to enable tracking through the health care pathway.
  • To track in all patients case notes using the electronic Patient Document Tracking System to ensure that current location is recorded at all times on the system. Ensuring notes available for consultant clinics and previous notes are requested from medical records and maternity repository. To implement Trust policies and departmental procedures for own area and propose changes to administrative policies.
  • To handle all enquiries in an efficient, polite and courteous manner providing a caring and helpful service to NHS patients
