Core Training Clinical Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics
This post is ideal for doctors aiming to work towards a Trauma and Orthopaedic ST3 application. Dedicated theatre and clinic experience in major trauma, hip fracture surgery and elective orthopaedics, on call activity in the Major Trauma Centre and day to day care of patients on the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards at RSCH. MDT management of Major Trauma Patients.
Ideally you have decided on Trauma and Orthopaedics as your preferred career or be in an allied specialty with an interest in surgery. You will be capable of managing projects both independently and under supervision and be skilled at team working. Regular supervision meetings with a training Consultant will help you shape your future career.

Main duties of the job
The clinical duties of the post include the following are described below, the rota will be fine-tuned to accommodate the training needs of the post holder and needs of the department.
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
About us
The Trauma & Orthopaedic department comprises 31 consultants, 2 associate specialists, 12 specialist registrars, 7 senior fellows, 24 FY2-CT2 SHO SHO level doctors, 4 FY1 doctors and 1 student ACP. We have three full time trauma coordinators and provide consultant led care across all orthopaedic sub-specialties, with daily consultant ward rounds on both sites.

This is a Core Surgical Training level clinical role in Trauma and Orthopaedics for 12 months (with possible scope for extension and rotation through vascular surgery to be determined on an individual basis). Successful candidates will be expected to work at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, RSCH (Brighton) and at Princess Royal Hospital, PRH (Haywards Heath).
These posts can be part time or full time and worked in an annualised way with flexible rostering using Healthrota software. This rota system creates efficient use of staffing so that there are not the fluctuations in numbers that happens with traditional templating systems. This helps to improve staff welfare, job satisfaction, and improve patient care.
