Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Cardiac team as a Interventional Consultant Cardiologis, Structural and Coronary, complementing the existing 15 full time and 2 part time consultant cardiologists, 6 cardio-thoracic surgeons and 6 cardiac anaesthetists.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, nice, ambitious colleague to join our team of Consultant Cardiologists as an Interventionist. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to develop Structural and Coronary Intervention alongside other potential interests such as Stroke, Pulmonary Thrombectomy, or other novel interventions. Main duties of the job

o Audit and educationo In-patient duties - Consultant of the Week (1:12)o Primary angioplasty rota

The post holder will be responsible for providing consultant support for Team of the Week, consultant delivered acute cardiology rota 1:12 frequency.

The post will be predominantly based at Royal Sussex County Hospital site though the successful candidate could be expected to work within the entire UHSussex network.

ON CALL ROTA 1:8 weekdays, 1:12 weekends, Medium frequency, Category ACategory A: this applies where the consultant is typically required to return immediately to site when called or has to undertake interventions with a similar level of complexity to those that would normally be carried out on site, such as telemedicine or complex telephone consultations;

Category B: this applies where the consultant can typically respond by giving telephone advice and/or by returning to work later.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. The post is full time position. The provisional job plan outlined in the table below

The post holder will spend between 2- 3 sessions in the catheter lab per week undertaking intervention cases, with additional sessions covering leave.

3. They will support in-patient and outpatient care for general cardiology patients and contribute to a 1:12 Team of the Week rota.

4. They will participate in and develop clinical and organisational clinical governance processes to improve service

5. The post holder will be expected to participate in the interventional cardiology consultant on-call rota.

The educational and clinical supervision of junior staff are expected as standard participation in departmental job planning, the annual appraisal system and activities of the specialist medical directorate is mandatory

In a 10 PA job plan 1 SPA - CPD will be provided (for less than full time this may be pro rata to minimum 0.5 SPA-CPD). SPA - CPD (168 hours per year) includes job planning, appraisal, mandatory training, consultant meetings, clinical governance such as NICE guideline reviews, national audits, GIRFT and patient safety such as incident investigation, coroner participation, learning from deaths, ward teaching and supporting management roles.

Any additional non-clinical (SPA) is at the discretion of the Clinical Director and part of team job planning. This must be defined with agreed outputs. Examples: education -SPA (for HEE and non-HEE doctors); leadership roles (at all levels); research; service development.

This job plan may/will be worked flexibly over a seven day working week. It is anticipated that patient related administration would be performed within the confines of the DCC PAs.

The following draft timetable is intended to show the Trust's expectation of the post and the facilities to be provided. Detailed adjustments may be required in consultation with the appointee, clinical colleagues and executive colleagues (3 months). In particular, a change may be appropriate after consultation to allow the development of a special interest held by the successful candidate.
