An exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist has arisen within the acute palliative care team at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The palliative care team consists of Palliative Care Consultants, Palliative care matron, Clinical nurse specialists, Occupational therapists & support workers. We work closely with the acute discharge co-ordinators to identify appropriate discharge destinations with the patient, family & multidisciplinary team.
The successful candidate will be providing Occupational Therapy intervention to palliative patients admitted for an acute episode of care; assessing functional ability to carry out ADLs to establish care and equipment needs to facilitate safe and timely discharges out of hospital.

Main duties of the job
The specialist Palliative Occupational therapist is responsible for providing clinical expertise in relation to the assessment and intervention for admitted adults with a palliative diagnosis. To work as part of the MDT and aligned with the hospital specialist palliative care team.
To work independently as an autonomous practitioner by providing specialist assessment and intervention to individuals presenting with a range of physical, cognitive, social or perceptual deficits which impact on functional ability and safety within their home environment, using an evidence based and person-centred approach.
To work closely with Physiotherapy colleagues, as well as the wider multi-disciplinary team. This will involve providing both formal and informal clinical support where necessary.
To provide supervision and leadership for relevant junior and senior members of staff and students on practice placement.
Multidisciplinary training, sharing of knowledge, skills and expertise and effective communication across all disciplines is necessary. In addition communication and liaison with statutory authorities and the voluntary sector as appropriate to support individual patient needs once discharged from the acute setting.
