General Physician with an interest in Neurology/Stroke Medicine
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279)
This job is now closed
Job summary
The Neurology Department at University Hospitals Sussex is in the throws of an exciting period of development, following the merger of two adjacent hospital Trusts in Sussex, and the relocation of the Neuroscience Department to a new purpose build centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.
The Stroke services at University Hospitals Sussex are provided on 3 sites currently, including Worthing General Hospital. The service provides hospital based care for acute stroke patients, including access to thrombolysis and therapies. There is a plan to reconfigure the services at Worthing and Chichester, with the development of an Acute Stroke Centre in Chichester and Comprehensive Stroke Centre at Brighton. This post would continue to support stroke and neurology services in the Trust in Chichester or Brighton.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and personable consultant to work at Worthing Hospital. The postholder will have the opportunity to develop a specialist interest in neurology, and to help develop and deliver an increasingly complex diagnostic and therapeutic regional neurology service. The postholder will support the existing stroke team on the inpatient ward and with the provision of TIA clinics on that site.
The establishment of University Hospitals Sussex as a new Trust provided the opportunity to better co-ordinate the care of neurology and stroke patients and ensure greater equity of provision of services. This is a welcome strategic development
Main duties of the job
This work will be supported by a medical secretary, appropriate office space and IT.
On Call Commitment:
Additional remuneration for On Call 1 in 8 on stroke rota for WGH and SRH, Category A - 5%, with additional time for unscheduled on-call activity
There is currently no expectation to be on site whilst on-call in evenings and at weekends. If required, time off in lieu or payment will be made upon mutual agreement with the line manager and in line with Trust policy.
