Job summary
An exciting opportunity for qualified and experienced Band 4 Nursery Nurses to assist in delivering safe and effective care to Transitional Care neonates on postnatal ward. This will include all aspects of parenting advice and discharge planning. The post holder will assist the Nursing, Medical and Midwifery teams in the care of babies and their families within Transitional Care, as directed by registered members of the team. The post holder will participate in health promotion in a safe environment, and contribute to the effective and efficient day-to-day running of Transitional Care and the postnatal ward in general.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in health promotion in a safe environment, and contribute to the effective and efficient day-to-day running of Transitional Care and the postnatal ward in general.
- On a daily basis provide care for the babies including feeding, nappy changing, eye care, Cord Clamp removal.
- Perform daily physical checks of babies and document findings/care into the digital baby care record. Report any concerns to the midwife in charge.
- Teach Student Midwives, Midwives and Maternity Care Assistants as required.
- Liaise with multidisciplinary colleagues where appropriate such as in child protection issues, drug misuse cases.
- Document clinical care in electronic patient records maintaining an accurate and legible record in accordance with Trust Policies and Guidelines.
- In respect of child protection cases, document fully in the birthing parent's notes the parenting skills and social interaction observed between parents and baby.
- Record basic observation such as temperature, pulse and respiration as required
- Listen to and partake in hand over at the beginning of the shift and handover to your peers at the end of the shift.
