Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Dermatology nursing team based at Brighton General Hospital.

Dermatology Outpatients is a busy department based at Brighton General Hospital. Services offered include outpatient clinics, day surgery, minor procedures and light therapy.

The Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team providing clinical care for patients with dermatology conditions, education, advice and support for individuals and their carers.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high quality dermatology nursing service to patients within the Trust.
  • To run nurse led clinics with the support of the Consultant, Clinical Lead Nurse and CNS's - Dermatology. To undertake assessments, initiate and plan appropriate treatment and investigations and evaluate programmes of care for a defined group of patients.
  • To act as a resource on advising nursing and medical staff on dermatology patients nursing needs.To assist in the setting and monitoring of quality standards in relation to clinical practice and specialist nursing advice for dermatology patients and in relation to NICE guidance and Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • To assist in promoting an environment conducive to learning for all the individuals working within the clinical team and support the orientation of new nursing staff to the team.
  • To liaise with other agencies and departments in both primary and secondary care.
  • To work within the Trusts' policies and procedures to assist in achieving the aims of the division's business plan. To provide clinical expertise as part of the Dermatology Team and ensure the provision of high quality evidenced based nursing care to patients with diagnosed dermatological conditions.

  • Completes patient documentation fully, ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that information systems are maintained by all members of the team.
