Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Respiratory Physician to join the team atUHSussex on the Royal Sussex County Hospital site. This is an initial 12 month locumpost, with a view to a substantive replacement post. Applicants must be within 6 months oftheir CCT date.

We welcome subspecialist interests relevant to your experience, however experiencewithin the lung cancer service would be advantageous. This is a full time post but wewould encourage applications from those who wish to work flexibly.

The Respiratory department consists of 11 Respiratory Physicians across both our acutesites: the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital, Hayward'sHeath. We have 10 specialist nurses in COPD, asthma, allergy, TB, respiratory infection,NIV, sleep, respiratory virtual ward and ILD. We have developed and run a respiratoryvirtual ward focussing on admission avoidance and early supported discharge and are inthe early stages of developing a respiratory same day emergency care (SDEC) service.

There are sub-specialist clinics in asthma, allergy, COPD, TB, fungal disease and non-CFbronchiectasis, lung cancer, pleural disease, interstitial lung disease & non-invasiveventilation. We perform weekly EBUS and bronchoscopy lists and twice weekly pleurallists.

Main duties of the job

This is a 12 month fixed term locum post with a view to a substantive replacement post.

10 PA: 8x DCC, 2x SPA. Inpatient and outpatient respiratory care; contribution towardsrespiratory out of hours on-call and weekend rota (1:10). Procedural competenceincluding pleural, bronchoscopy and/or endobronchial ultrasound advantageousdependent on experience and sub-specialist expertise. Participation in clinicalsupervision for doctors in training. Involvement in teaching medical students fromBrighton and Sussex Medical School.

This is a full-time post, however part-time and job-share applications are welcome.Applicants must be within 6 months of their CCT date.
