Job summary

We are delighted to invite applications to these posts. The successful applicant will be working for the Geriatric Medicine Team at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. The post offers excellent experience in speciality geriatric medicine and unselected medical on calls. This job would suit a doctor post IMT3 doctor who is looking to gain further experience in geriatric medicine.

Main duties of the job

The Geriatric team provides a front door frailty service which involves seeing frail older people as they present to Accident & Emergency. As part of the post, the applicant will take part in regular frailty weeks when they will be part of the frailty team, seeing and assessing patients presenting acutely.

Job responsibilities

The Geriatric Medicine department works across, Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) and Newhaven Community ward. This post is primarily based at Royal Sussex County Hospital. The Geriatric Medicine team work both on the acute floor and across level 8 in the new Louisa Martindale building with short stay frailty areas, general geriatrics and dementia specialist areas as well as daily rapid access clinic with the development of a frailty SDEC in due course.

There is opportunity to work within our Rapid Access Clinic for Older People (RACOP) which offers timely assessment for un-well patients, while also facilitating admission avoidance and early discharge through close working with community teams.

This post offers the opportunity to gain experience in ward and clinic based geriatric medicine, acute and interface geriatrics and medical registrar on calls.

This post will contribute to the on call medical registrar rota, long days, nights and weekends. On calls may take place at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton or Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath

As the Registrar, you will be expected to lead the team of junior doctors, supported by the Consultants, in providing high quality care and ensuring timely discharge for inpatients on one of our wards. The wards have dedicated multidisciplinary team with daily board rounds which supports the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment of our patients.
