Job summary

In this exciting role you will be leading the Strategy and Planning function in one of the largest acute hospital Trusts in the country. Working with the Board and wider system partners you will be responsible for the leadership and coordination of our strategic work including ensuring business planning reflects our strategic objectives, developing our role in systems and partnerships and coordinating our efforts to tackle health inequalities. In addition, you will to support a range of high-profile projects including the development of our new cancer centre.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Strategy and Planning will play a key role in shaping the Trust's future roadmap and be able to bring colleagues and stakeholders together through a collaborative and inclusive approach. The successful candidate will have a strong background in strategic management within a healthcare setting and demonstrate a compassionate leadership style and genuine drive to deliver high quality services for our patients.

  • Provide expert advice and guidance in leading the design and ongoing development of the Trust Strategy
  • Lead strategic engagement with internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to, the Trust Board, Trust Management Committee and system partners, to ensure wide involvement in the design and development of our strategic approach
  • Facilitate debate and discussion with clinical and corporate colleagues to ensure wide engagement in the creation, and any refresh, of the Trust Strategy
  • Lead the strategy reporting cycle and strategy governance and oversight framework, with regard to existing ways of working
  • Support teams and departments in their development of local strategies and plans that support the achievement of strategic objectives and the delivery of the Trust Strategy
  • Work cross-functionally to develop implementation plans for key strategic projects across the Trust and with key external partners
  • Cultivate relationships across the system to develop shared strategic priorities and plans, including with the ICS, place based partnerships and Provider Collaboratives, deputising for Executive Directors as required and representing the Trust in key system fora.
