Job summary

Fixed Term Specialty Doctor in Orthodontics8 PA's. Open to discussion regarding number of PA's Applications are invited for a part time Fixed Term Specialty Doctor in Orthodontics for a period of twelve months.

We are looking for a highly enthusiastic Specialty Doctor in Orthodontics to work at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton. This is a part time fixed term (12 months) appointment on a 8 PA (or less). The job plan, days of work and length or contract are open to discussion. The post holder will be part of an established multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with Consultants in Restorative Dentistry, Paediatric Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and supported by two Orthodontic Consultant colleagues with dedicated secretarial support. The post holder will be expected to provide orthodontic care, with support from Consultant Colleagues, for patients requiring orthognathic surgery, dentoalveolar surgery, restorative or paediatric dental treatment and complex orthodontic treatment. This post also involves teaching and supervision of Specialist Orthodontic Registrars

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be expected to fulfil the following duties

o Interact and work with Consultant colleagues to provide a comprehensive hospital orthodontic service, maintaining compliance with the 18 week pathway targets.o Undertake outpatient new patient and follow up clinics, with supervision of trainees as appropriate.o Triage new patient referrals to the department, apply the department criteria for acceptance of patients, and work flexibly with colleagues.o Develop and maintain good communication with consultant colleagues, General practitioners (medical and dental), colleagues in salaried dental services and local orthodontic specialist practitioners.o Undertake personal treatment sessions and have a significant multi-disciplinary caseload including orthognathic, dentoalveolar, restorative, and paediatric dentistry.Provide cover for colleagues during periods of leave or absence.

Essential

  • BDS or equivalent
  • Membership in Orthodontics or equivalent
  • Full GDC Registration with a licence to practice
  • Entry onto the GDC Specialist Register in Orthodontics on date of taking up appointment
  • Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Orthodontics
  • oFour years post-graduation, with two years in the relevant specialty

Desirable

  • MSc or equivalent
  • Successful completion of SAC approved minimum two year training in a post CCST training appointment or within 6 months of completion.
  • Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in Orthodontics or equivalent.
