Job summary

To support the Head of Strategy Deployment in the delivery of the PFIP, developing the overall Patient First Improvement System (PFIS) roadmap and taking shared operational responsibility for the design, development and delivery of the PFIS training programme. Responsible for provision of direct coaching to staff at a number of levels, including Divisional/Care Group Triumvirates and frontline/corporate services during their PFIS journey, supporting a culture of continuous improvement and developing PFIS maturity over time. Responsible for a sub team within the Kaizen Office (including PFIS Team Leader, PFIS Practitioners and PFIS Administrator), ensuring sufficient resource and capability are in place to deliver a variety of training offerings and improvement activity to support delivery of the Trusts Strategic Initiatives and Objectives.

To work with the wider Improvement and Delivery Team, identifying opportunities for shared learning, alignment and development of services/staff.

Main duties of the job

Deliver difficult messages, some of which may be contentious nature such as new ways of working and improvement terminology. There will potentially be barriers to acceptance, as this will lead to different ways of working and challenging the status quo.

Ability to communicate effectively with personnel at all levels throughout the Trust.

Ensure communication and engagement plans are in place that facilitate the celebration of success, in particular graduation events, sharing of best practice and learning across all part of the organisation.

Support the Head of Strategy Deployment in the development and delivery of roadmaps for the Strategy Deployment (PFIS) and Capability pillars of the Patient First Improvement Programme (PFIP).

Plan, organise and oversee a broad range of complex individual and team activities, supporting the delivery of PFIS/PFIP.

Support in the design and delivery of PFIS training offerings (including PFIS Wave/Roll Out Training and PFIP For Leaders Training), building continuous improvement capability across the organisation and ensuring staff have the appropriate level of skills to deliver continuous improvement as a business-as-usual activity.

Work closely with each divisional & care group level triumvirate, taking a shared lead responsibility for the rollout of PFIS including the engagement of new PFIS areas, training, post training coaching and support

  • Support the development, implementation and governance of PFIS training, highlighting key measures/ KPIs of success.
  • Develop bespoke improvement offerings/activities as required, tailoring these offerings to suit site and team requirements and ensuring alignment to Trust mission, objectives and priorities.
  • Provide coaching to frontline teams and their divisional leaders to support the implementation of PFIS, using recognised coaching models such as GROW and demonstrating key coaching skills such as effective questioning, active listening and providing effective feedback.
  • Support the development and implementation of Leader Standard Work across all care group triumvirates to support PFIS areas.
  • Develop feedback mechanisms for ongoing review and development of Kaizen Office training offerings, including delegate feedback, impacts of training, application of learning etc.
  • Work closely with the Patient First Team Leaders, to ensure on-going support for PFIS areas and their divisions as PFIS units progress from training to using the improvement system as part of their business as usual.
  • Work closely with the Patient First Team Leader, take ownership of the on-going maturity of PFIS in all divisions, ensuring progress and sustainability and developing the PFIS maturity criteria ensuring that it represents current best practise.
  • Develop long-term plans and roadmaps to ensure the progression of maturity for all units from graduate level through to mastering level.
  • Facilitate collaborative working across the Trust, supporting capacity planning and development of long-term strategic plans for performance and service improvement.
  • Support the development, implementation and governance of the Trusts Gemba with Purpose plan, with particular focus on divisional & care group level Gemba with purpose plans to support new PFIS areas.
  • Assist clinical and operational leadership teams in building an engaged workforce that utilises all Trust staff to drive results towards organisational goals and continuous improvement.
