Job summary

Supporting the Security Manager in the delivery of a robust cost effective Security Service to the Trust across all sites.

Main duties of the job

Protecting Staff, Patients and visitors from acts of violence and abuse and ensuring wherever possible evidence is gathered and preserved to secure conviction of offenders. This will on occasion involve direct engagement with patients and members of the public displaying challenging behaviour.

Undertake high profile patrols of all areas of the Trust Estate to deter & detect criminal activity directed against the Trust, its staff, patients and other assets.

Undertaking initial investigation of thefts and other security incidents across the Trust and providing crime prevention & remedial security advice to victims of crime and ward/department Managers

Maintaining records and monitoring crime trends locally and site wide

Provide line management support to Security Officers.

To establish and maintain positive working relationships with Police and criminal justice services.

The Post holder has freedom to act and provide advice and guidance without recourse to senior colleagues, including communication with external stakeholders

  • Work with the Security Manager, Police & CPS to ensure criminal cases are progressed accordingly, including attendance at Court.
  • Ensure Security incidents are investigated and reported in accordance with Trust Policy & Security Department procedures.
  • Deal sensitively and in an empathetic manner with staff, visitors & patients who present with complex and highly emotive issues as a result of the wider impact of crime including violence and physical assaults.
  • Ensure that all NHS security work is carried out within the professional and ethical procedures of the Security Dept.
  • Provide input to Capital Development schemes and refurbishments to maximise the opportunity to design out crime from the Trusts built environment and to achieve Secured by Design status for new build & refurbished estate.
  • Required to complete all duties of a Security Officer
  • Ensure the effective, secure & confidential management of data including sensitive personal data held by the Security department including compliance with relevant legislation.
  • To be able to use Trust Information systems to include, Security Logs, Datix, Rostering system and Security files.
  • Utilise new Information Technology equipment to improve efficiencies
