Job summary

To work as part of the Paediatric Emergency Nurse Practitioner (PENP) team within the Children'semergency department, independantly assessing and managing children and young people thatpresent with minor injuries.

Main duties of the job

This a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave and so the suitable candidate will have alreadydeveloped experience in managing paediatric minor injuries.We are looking for a dynamic and motived indivdual who puts the child/young person and theirfamily at the centre of their care. You will be working within a team of highly skilled PENP's andwithin an agreed scope of practice. You will independantly assess, diagnose and manage childrenand young people that present with a range of minor injuries. There will be support from the widerteam and CED consultants and there are great opportunities for continuing professionaldevelopment such as study days, MDT teaching and observing in paediatric orthopaedic clinics etc.The children's emergency department is a dedicated ED for children up until the age of 17 years. Wehave a large multdisciplinary team consisting of paediatric emergency consultants, junior doctors,Nurse Consultant, Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner, experienced paediatric nurses, nurseassociates and HCA's. We also have the ACORNS team - a children's outreach service and a youthworker.The Alex Children's hospital was rated as outstanding by the CQC. It is a standalone children'shospital on the same site at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
