Calling Full Time and Part-time Band 6 Dietitians!

We have a Band 6 dietitian post to work in our brand new teaching hospital in Brighton. Therefore, we will accept applications for part time & full time dietitians. Please let us know in your application form how many hours you are applying for.

This post is part of our Band 6 Rotations and you will have the opportunity to gain fantastic experience in all aspects of dietetics including nutrition support and complex enteral feeding

Rotations include: major Trauma, stroke, acute medicine and renal.

The dietitians provides expert dietetic care at our brand new teaching hospital in Brighton and you would work very closely with the senior dietitians who support your training and development. Therefore this post offers you fantastic experience & support from the team across many complex dietetic specialities.

We are passionate about training student dietitians, research and audit and have a really robust development programme for you.Informal visits or discussions about the role are very welcome.

Main duties of the job

As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, you will demonstrate a high level of expertise within a specialist area rotating between: 1.) major trauma 2.) acute medicine 3.) Stroke and 4.) Renal. All roles include one general clinic per week or satelite unit cover.

You will also be responsible for covering the Band 7 dietitians in your speciality during periods of leave.

You will play a key role in the nutritional management of these patient groups and will provide specialist advice, education and support to patients, carers and other health professionals.

In addition you will actively be involved in the trust's clinical governance programme and quality framework agenda by taking lead responsibility for ensuring continuing professional development, audit and research activities within this specialist area.

You will also be involved in supporting junior dietitians and students.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

To manage an autonomous clinical caseload of patients with a variety of clinical complexity, providing evidence based dietary advice depending on rotation to:

  • Inpatients receiving care on the major trauma wards in the trust - this encompasses the very specific and complex group of patients receiving treatment for multiple injuries including orthopaedics.
  • Inpatients on the Digestive diseases unit including medical & surgical gastro.
  • In and outpatients under care of renal department including renal ward, low clearance, haemo & peritoneal dialysis and transplant
  • Provide cover to other areas within the hospital during periods of staff absence particularly for the Band 7 s in your specialist area
  • Support and supervision of the Band 5 dietitians and student dietitians within the acute team.
  • At least one general outpatient clinic per week or satelitte dialysis unit
  • Inpatients requiring artificial nutritional support, such as enteral feeding, parenteral feeding or gastrostomy feeding which may require some challenging of other health care professionals and medical views.
  • Patients experiencing severe malnutrition.
  • Patients who are in danger of developing refeeding syndrome who need timely and careful monitoring and highlight to the multidisciplinary team that these clients are at risk.
  • Telephone support of patients discharged to the community setting as required.

To undertake the nutritional assessment of patients, and using the results, plan and prescribe their dietary care by:

  • Investigating and obtaining patient information.
  • Interpreting complex and sensitive medical and social information.
  • Requesting and interpreting biochemistry, anthropometry and other physical parameters.
