Job summary
To care for all patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
To support the endoscopy nurse manager in the running of the endoscopy unit & to deputise for the endoscopy nurse manager in her absence.
To work with the endoscopy nurse manager in leading a multidisciplinary team in providing a quality service to all patients and their carers.
To act as a resource and assist in organising the supervision, preceptorship and development of staff and students.
Main duties of the job
- To supervise and manage staff providing care in the clinical area.
- To ensure adequate staff deployment and skill mix in both clinical and administrative areas, including strategies for staff retention.
- To be responsible for overseeing completion of the weekly off-duty.
- To promote and manage team building.
- To monitor and record sickness and absence in accordance with Trust policy.
- To assist the endoscopist during procedures.

To maintain clinical and professional responsibilities within the unit.
- To liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team and other departments.
- To represent the unit at relevant meetings in the absence of the endoscopy nurse manager.
- To act as an advocate for patients, relatives and staff.

We are a JAG accredited endoscopy unit, providing an acute service in Brighton and Hove and the surrounding area, for patients requiring diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. We are developing our endoscopy service at the Princess Royal site in Hayward's Heath, and, as this development evolves, you will have the opportunity to work across both sites. At the Royal Sussex County site we also provide a 24 hour on call service.
We are looking for a forward thinking nurse with a can do attitude. You will be an excellent role model who takes pride in their work and supports the development of the service. You will be working with patients and their carers/relatives, with the immediate and wider multidisciplinary teams, and with other services and service users, so you will need to possess excellent communication skills .
We are a friendly, supportive team who strive to provide a high standard of care. Education is a priority in endoscopy and if you are successful you will be assisted by our team of practice educators to support your professional development.
We have two practice educators and a comprehensive training package, to ensure that you are able to function to the highest standard.
